 THE WAY IT WAS

Welcome to the ISPP homepage!

Our society dedicates its activity to the promotion of physiology and pharmacology in Israel by fostering teaching and cutting edge research and implementing them in academia, industry, medicine and all aspects of human welfare. After all, Physiology is the science of how humans and other animals function in an integrated way and is the basis for many biological and clinical sciences. Its main objective is to increase mankind's understanding of the functions of cells, tissues, organs and organ systems in animals and humans.

The Israeli society's activities mainly consist of an annual scientific meeting and dissemination of relevant information to its members via electronic mail. In addition, we plan to broaden these activities via an upgraded website, which will include information for teaching and job placement. Our society is affiliated to international societies of physiology and pharmacology, and active links on this page will enable better information about their activities.

Israel is well known internationally and has high standards of scientific achievements which are reflected in the scientific level of Israeli physiologists and pharmacologists. Although the cost of new drug development is prohibitively high, yet strategies have to be developed to discover novel compounds and a dynamic interaction between Israeli scientists in academia and industry should be promoted.

Israeli physiologists and pharmacologists are probing the fundamental mechanisms of organ's functions in health and disease using state-of-the-art technologies. They use new chemical approaches for drug engineering, targeting and rational drug design based on protein 3-D structure, molecular docking as well as molecular dynamics simulations and molecular predictions. The visitor is invited to browse the abstracts of our latest meetings to get an impression of their achievements.

From the initial beginnings at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the mid 20th century, the research in physiology and pharmacology is actively pursued in the faculties of life sciences or medicine in all Israeli academic institutions. We wish that our register of active members will grow to reflect this expansion, and invite you to join us.

Best wishes to Faculty members, students and guests,

Prof. Bernard Attali

President
